What makes Connexin’s Rural Gigabit Ultrafast Broadband different to other rural providers?

For many years there has been a question as to why rural villages have been left behind when it comes to the national rollout of ultrafast broadband, but with the help of the Rural Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme that’s all changing! Supporting our local community of East Riding Connexin have been building Gigabit capable broadband networks in rural villages throughout the region, serving over 5,000 homes by the end of 2022 with big plans to expand even further in 2023.

To understand exactly how Connexin’s Gigabit capable ultrafast broadband works, we’ve put together a short video to explain- with our pioneering partners at Siklu!

The Challenges

A fast, reliable broadband connection has become a vital part of our lives, whether that be to stream your favourite TV show, work from home, increase your property value or to stay connected with loved ones, everyone wants and needs to be connected!

Rural connectivity comes with many challenges and there is a lot to consider when building high speed broadband networks in hard-to-reach areas. Many broadband providers have avoided investing in and expanding into rural areas as a result. However, that’s where Connexin are different, we care about our surrounding communities and have developed a new innovative approach that uses both Fibre and Wireless technologies to solve the rural broadband challenge. Our approach is designed to be environmentally friendly and cause less disruption by minimising excavation.

The Solution

Connexin’s Fixed Wireless Networks utilise Siklu’s latest Facebook certified Terragraph solution. This enables Connexin to meet the growing demand for reliable, high-speed internet access in urban, suburban, and rural environments.

Connexin have used the Siklu Smarthaul Wireless Network Design Engine (WiNDE) to plan and design a complete millimetre wave wireless network, allowing them to pinpoint poles and measure the radius of coverage ensuring the best possible results for connectivity and speeds throughout the village. This means Connexin can install wireless equipment in strategic locations within the villages to provide ubiquitous wireless coverage. A receiver is then installed at the customers home where a wireless signal is transferred to bring high speed broadband direct to their home.

The Result

Once connected, customers living in rural areas can expect speeds of up to 1000 Mbps, with unlimited download allowances.

What is the Rural Gigabit Voucher Scheme?

As registered supplier on the DCMS Rural Gigabit Connection Vouchers Scheme Connexin can provide connectivity to homes and businesses in rural areas with current broadband speeds of less than 100Mbps. This scheme provides financial support for residents and SMEs located in rural villages where broadband speeds are slow and unreliable. Rural premises with broadband speeds of less than 100Mbps can obtain funding of up to £1,500 (inc vat) per home and up to £3,500 (ex vat) for each small to medium-sized business (SME) towards the installation costs of the gigabit-capable broadband connection.
