IoT RF Consultant

We are looking for an RF (Radio Frequency) Consultant to join the IoT (Internet of Things) Planning team to provide expert RF Planning and Engineering services to support the expansion and optimisation of Connexin's wireless network infrastructure, with a particular focus on LoRaWAN.

About Us

We're on a mission to "Connect the real world with the digital world to improve lives”. To get there, we govern ourselves with a set of simple yet powerful guiding principles:

We believe we make a difference to people’s lives.

We care about each other & our customers.

We challenge the Industry.

We deliver on our promises and have fun doing it.

What you'll be doing:

The RF (Radio Frequency) Consultant will join the IoT (Internet of Things) Planning team, on a 12 month fixed term basis, to provide expert RF Planning and Engineering services to support the expansion and optimisation of Connexin's wireless network infrastructure, with a particular focus on LoRaWAN. Operating as an independent contractor, the Consultant will utilise their specialised knowledge to deliver high-quality, efficient network designs and technical guidance, ensuring projects meet all regulatory and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

RF Network Design and Planning: Provide end-to-end Radio Planning and Engineering services, primarily for LoRaWAN and other agreed applications, to develop and optimise network coverage, capacity, and Quality of Service (QoS).

Infrastructure Optimisation: Deliver expert technical consultancy to refine and enhance existing LoRaWAN infrastructure performance and design.

Site Feasibility and Surveys: Conduct necessary desktop and where required on-site surveys to validate network designs, identify potential obstacles, and recommend viable technical solutions for implementation.

Technical Compliance: Ensure all network designs and project plans strictly adhere to relevant UK regulations, including spectrum allocation and health and safety requirements (e.g., Construction Design Management Regulations).

Quality Assurance (QA): Implement and oversee QA processes for network design outputs, challenging and auditing design documentation to ensure a 'right first time' delivery standard for internal and external build partners.

Documentation and Reporting: Produce and maintain comprehensive, accurate network design documentation (e.g., design packs, as-builts) and provide regular written progress reports and technical answers to the Authorised Representatives.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with Connexin's IoT Project Planning, Delivery, and IoT Solution teams, as well as external contract partners, ensuring seamless technical alignment across all project phases.

SME Guidance: Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for LoRaWAN network design and RF best practice, staying abreast of emerging technologies and industry standards.

Essential Skills & Experience:

Demonstrable experience and expertise in RF Planning and Engineering, particularly within wireless communications (LoRaWAN knowledge is highly desirable).

Deep foundational knowledge of wave propagation concepts, modulation techniques, and radiocommunication standards (an asset).

Proficiency with RF planning and simulation tools such as Atoll, Cloud RF, or similar.

Strong command of GIS software for network planning, including QGIS, ArcGIS, or similar tools.

Knowledge of UK NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) permitting and streetworks knowledge is essential.

Experience or clear understanding of site access methods, including safe use of MEWPs and tower climbing/working at height protocols.

Specific experience with LoRaWAN-specific RF tools and planning methodologies is a significant advantage.

Knowledge of the UK water market and its infrastructure is highly advantageous.

Experience operating within the UK telecommunications sector is also highly advantageous.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and optimise network performance.

Experience in supporting the cost-control aspects of projects, with knowledge of material forecasting and Bill of Materials (BoM) an advantage.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of liaising effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
