Build together with Connexin
Helping create greener, safer communities.
Your area is getting an upgrade: a new wireless network designed to support local services and help your community run smoothly and more sustainably.
To make it happen, we’re installing small wireless gateways (aerials) in your area. They connect to sensors and collect real-time data to help everything from utilities to public services work more efficiently.
Wherever we can, we use existing streetlights or buildings to install them. But sometimes, those spots aren’t suitable. So, we’re inviting residents like you to get involved by hosting a gateway at home.
By hosting, you’re helping bring this new network to life, reducing the need for extra street furniture or new telegraph poles, and keeping your area looking great.
This project is part of a wider plan to improve digital infrastructure across the UK. We’re working closely with your local council to make sure installations are quick, safe, and clearly communicated at every step.
Together, we’re building smarter, more connected communities.

Why Hosting Matters

Small, Safe, and Out of Sight
The gateway is a compact, low-power device that sits quietly on your home. It’s smaller than a shoebox, with a slim antenna, and is designed to blend in while running safely and reliably for years. There are no cameras, microphones, or moving parts, and it makes no noise or bright lights, just a tiny status LED.
This isn’t 5G or broadband. It uses a low-power radio signal called LoRaWAN®, similar in strength to a car key fob, and well below UK and World Health Organisation safety limits.
How To Host a Gateway

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the gateway safe?
Answer: Yes! The device uses LoRaWAN® technology, a form of low-power radio. Much lower than standard Wi-Fi and equal to a car key fob transmitter. It meets strict UK safety standards and operates at a fraction of the allowed limits.
Is it collecting personal data?
Answer: No. It has no camera or microphone; it only relays fully encrypted signals from smart sensors like water meters. Those signals contain data readings and Device IDs, no names or addresses.
Will it impact the value of my property?
Answer: It’s small, discreet, and non-intrusive, similar to a satellite dish or TV aerial. If a potential home buyer objects, it can also be easily removed.
How much power does it use and will this cost me?
Answer: The gateway uses around 61 kWh of electricity per year – roughly £20. Your annual reward for hosting will more than cover this cost.
