What is an IP phone and how do I setup my IP phone?

IP phones (internet Phones) are just like normal phones, but come with built-in VoIP (Voice Over Internet) technology. Rather than pluging into your phone socket, an IP phone plugs into your router and allows you to make FREE and cheaper calls over an Internet connection. All IP phones purchased from Connexin come pre-configured, saving you the hassle of manually setting them up! But don't worry, if you purchard your Internet Phone from elsewhere, you can still easily set them up to use Connexin by following our appropriate setup guides.

What is a Softphone?

A Softphone is fully functioning software based phone, which can be installed on your desktop, laptop or mobile device. Allowing you to make or receive calls via a headset and mic. The Connexin service works with most 3rd party Softphones. By installing a softphone on a mobile device, you can carry your Connexin phone number with you wherever you go.

Can I call people who are not using Connexin?

Yes.
The person you are calling doesn't need to have Connexin to receive your call. Calls to Connexin users are FREE 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Calls to non-Connexin users are charged at our Pay As You Go rates.

Do I need a separate Internet connection for VoIP?

For general day to day usage, a single connection is capable of handling both VoIP and normal data usage. For businesses who have more than 5 users, we would recommend a separate connection for VoIP.

How reliable is VoIP

VoIP is as reliable as the Internet. Most of the reliability issues are down to the quality and stability of your broadband service provider and your equipment. Obviously the faster and more stable your Internet connection is, the clearer the voice call quality. Click here to learn more about VoIP.

Sometimes the person I call cannot hear me or vice versa. Why is this?

This is usually known as One-Way Audio. This may be caused by your router firewall blocking voice packets from going in or out. Click here to learn more about this issue.

When someone calls me, my phone doesn't ring. Why is this?

It could be that your default answering mode is set to Forward then Voicemail, Forward Only, Voicemail Only or Reject which ignores all calls and redirect callers according to the mode selected. Please visit our How to Setup Call Forwarding article for more information or contact support.

Can I upgrade my call package?

How much do callers get charged when they call me on my Connexin number?

Connexin numbers behave like normal numbers. How much people calling you pay depends on your area code and their network providers rates to that area code. This is true for our entire range of numbers: UK geographic / Non-geographic, European Numbers and Rest of World Numbers.

Can I use VoIP to Receive a Fax?

Connexin offers a feature called Fax to Email which allows you to receive faxes direct to your email address as PDF attachments without the need of a physical fax machine.

Do you offer onsite installations and if so, how much?

We do offer onsite installation and cost is dependent on location, timeframe and project complexity. For most business who sign up for our Cloud Phone System, there is not much to do at your end apart from just plugging in our pre-configured phones/hardware.

How long does it take to have a Connexin number up and running for home users?

Your Connexin account is usually ready within minutes of signing up.

How long does it take to setup a business phone system?
-
We aim to provision and setup each Cloud Phone System within an hour of you signing up, provided that all relevant setup fees have been paid. During busy periods, it could take up to 24 hours before your phone system is ready.

How long does it take to deliver my phones?

Provided your order is placed before 3 pm and payment is received and cleared, your phones will be configured and shipped out the same working day. We post our items using Next Working Day Delivery.

I have changed my bank details, what do I need to do?

For Pay As You Go customers, you can easily update your billing information via your online control panel. Users who are paying by Direct Debit, you must notify our Accounts team and complete a new Direct Debit mandate. For more information, please visit our Knowledgebase.
